The Ophthalmology Clinic of the University of Debrecen was the first in Hungary to introduce a procedure that can treat vascular melanoma while preserving the eyeball. First, the tumour is destroyed by imaging-guided, precision external beam radiation, and then the tumour tissue is removed from the inside of the eyeball by the retinal surgeon. The treatment requires close collaboration between the Oncology Clinic, the Medical Imaging Clinic and the Ophthalmology Clinic.
