It is a great pleasure for me that you have shown interest in our Faculty, which is one of the leading institutions for pharmacy education in Hungary and, at the same time, a dynamically developing center for pharmaceutical education, research, and innovation. The University of Debrecen’s pharmacy program has a history spanning more than two decades. In 2001, our first graduates received their pharmacy degrees, and in 2003, with the approval of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Debrecen was established, beginning its independent operation as the university’s eleventh faculty. One of the most significant milestones in our faculty's history was our move in 2024 to a new, state-of-the-art building: to the Science, Technology, and Innovation Park of the University of Debrecen. The new campus provides a 21st-century environment for education, research, and innovation for our students, faculty, and researchers, and meets the requirements of modern pharmacy education and international standards in every respect.
Our department’s mission is to provide high-quality education covering the full spectrum of pharmacy. Our educational offerings range from the integrated pharmacy program to master’s programs, specialized continuing education courses, and specialized pharmacist training, all the way through to doctoral programs. Our programs combine cutting-edge knowledge in the natural and health sciences with high-level practical training, preparing our students to succeed in community and hospital pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, research and development, and a wide variety of fields within healthcare and biotechnology.
However, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Debrecen is much more than just an educational institution. It is a scientific community where education, research, innovation, and patient care form a close-knit whole. Through our international research collaborations, industry partnerships, and translational research, our staff actively contribute to the development of new drug candidates, state-of-the-art drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical technology solutions, and patient-centered therapies. Our students can become involved in research work even while they are still in school, which provides an excellent foundation for their future professional careers.
It is particularly important to us that our students not only possess excellent professional knowledge but also become professionals with an open, responsible, collaborative, and innovative mindset. We are convinced that the pharmacist of the future will be at once a healthcare professional, a researcher, an innovator, and a trusted ally to patients.
The development of our department over the past decades is the result of the collaborative efforts of numerous outstanding educators, researchers, and leaders.We are grateful to all those who laid the foundation for pharmacy education in Debrecen, as well as to the University’s past and present leadership, the Faculty of General Medicine, and the academic units providing education in the natural sciences, without whose support our Faculty’s successes would not have been possible. Building on this legacy, we work every day to ensure that the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Debrecen continues to strengthen its national and international reputation.
