Research - Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Research Directions

The research activities of the department are primarily focused on the design, synthesis, and medicinal chemistry investigation of biologically active compounds. Key areas include carbohydrate and nucleoside chemistry, specifically the research of oligosaccharides, neuraminic acid derivatives, glycomimetics, and nucleoside analogues as well as the development of novel antimicrobial and anticancer drug candidates.

Another important research direction is the study of hydrogen sulfide-donating drug candidates, as well as the modification of glycopeptide antibiotics and other naturally occurring bioactive compounds with the aim of producing novel antiviral and antibacterial agents. The research also extends to the design and synthesis of biologically active cannabinoid derivatives and the biological evaluation of new drug candidate molecules within the framework of national and international collaborations.

Current Research Topics

  • Carbohydrate chemistry and synthesis of biologically active oligosaccharides
