The research projects at the Department share a common focus on natural compounds, while covering a wide range of model organisms and hypotheses. Three basic research grants (OTKA) are currently running at the Department:
"Metabolomic investigation of cyanobacterial mass production and its regulation" (PI: Dr. Gábor Vasas). The project studies how treatment with oxidizing agents change the bioactive compounds of cyanobacteria. It also examines the chemical composition, patterns and effects of the newly formed compounds, using isolated strains and algal bloom matrices as models.
"The effect of the plant metabolome on the establishment of endophyte communities from synthetic and natural fungal communities in radish" (PI: Dr. Sándor Gonda). Using radish as a model, the project studies interactions between plant compounds and communities of filamentous fungi, mainly with untargeted LC-MS metabolomics and network analysis. It examines both the effect of the fungi on the plant and the effect of plant compounds on the fungi.
"Investigation of the chemical pattern of pea (Pisum sativum) seedlings using metabolomic methods" (PI: Dr. Zsolt Szűcs). The project uses metabolomic methods to examine chemical differences among pea varieties.
