Department of Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology

EducationResearch

As the youngest department of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Department of Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology plays a prominent role in the education of industrial pharmaceutical technology, as well as in research, development and innovation activities related to industrial pharmaceutical manufacturing and drug development. The Department aims to provide students with high-level, practice-oriented education closely aligned with the technological and professional requirements of the modern pharmaceutical industry.

The Department’s research and development activities encompass the development of advanced dosage forms and formulations, the optimisation of manufacturing technologies, and the development of novel technological solutions. Our work includes development projects covering the entire process from the initial concept and formulation design through prototype production, experimental validation and analytical testing to the development and optimisation of manufacturing technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on formulation development and manufacturing process development, including the investigation and scale-up of technological processes and the preparation of manufacturing processes for industrial application.

Building on its modern infrastructure and broad range of technological expertise, the Department provides opportunities for the development and characterisation of nano-, micro- and macroscale drug delivery systems, as well as a wide range of pharmaceutical dosage forms. The advanced analytical and technological methods applied in our research and development activities support the comprehensive investigation and optimisation of formulations and manufacturing processes. A particular area of activity is the development and small-scale manufacturing of food supplements as well. – Comprehensive support from concept to product! Our team provides comprehensive support throughout the entire product development process, from the initial concept to the finished product, including research and development, formulation design, prototype development, experimental validation, analytical testing, and the development and optimisation of manufacturing technologies. Our HACCP-authorised small-scale manufacturing facility provides flexible opportunities for the production of food supplements, typically in batch sizes of 50–5,000 units. The available technologies are suitable, among others, for the development and manufacture of powders, granules, tablets and capsules.

The Department also places particular emphasis on applied research and development projects carried out in collaboration with industrial partners. We maintain close professional relationships with pharmaceutical industry stakeholders in Hungary and abroad, as well as with technology providers and equipment manufacturers. Our collaborations may involve the development of novel dosage forms and formulations, the design and development of manufacturing technologies, the identification and resolution of technological challenges, as well as the investigation and optimisation of the pharmaceutical application of new manufacturing equipment and technological systems. Development projects conducted jointly with pharmaceutical and equipment-manufacturing partners create opportunities for research results to be translated directly into practical industrial applications.

The Department is committed to establishing mutually beneficial industrial and professional partnerships that, in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the University, support innovation, the advancement of industrial pharmaceutical technology, and the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical sector. One of the fundamental objectives of the Department is to integrate university research expertise, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the practical experience of industrial partners in order to create a development environment in which new ideas and technologies can progress from the laboratory stage towards industrial implementation.
