Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry - research domains grouped by departments

The department has two professionally distinct research domains. Both are based on the design and synthesis of biologically active compounds, but their research goals and cooperation networks are different.

RESEARCH DOMAINS

Carbohydrate Chemistry and Drug Chemistry

Anikó Borbás | glycomimetics | nucleoside analogues | drug candidate molecules

The workshop conducts research primarily in the field of carbohydrate chemistry and nucleoside chemistry. The design and chemical synthesis of oligosaccharides, neuraminic acid derivatives, glycomimetics, and nucleoside analogs are carried out to develop antimicrobial and antitumor agents. Their research covers the design and production of new hydrogen sulphide-releasing drug derivatives. Biological studies are carried out within the framework of extensive national and international cooperation.

Antiviral, antibacterial compounds, and other drug candidates

Ilona Bakai-Bereczki | antiviral and antibacterial glycopeptide antibiotics | semi-synthetic modifications | cannabinoids

The workshop's independent research program is aimed at the semi-synthetic modification of biologically active natural molecules. Its main topic is the reprogramming of glycopeptide antibiotics by designing, synthesizing and biologically testing compounds that are effective against dangerous viruses and resistant bacteria. In addition, the design and production of biologically active cannabinoid derivatives is also an important area. The research domain is based on its own partnerships, tender topics and student recruitment.
