- The Faculty of Pharmacy is established within the Medical and Health Science Center (OEC) of the University of Debrecen, and the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry becomes one of its five independent departments.

- The three universities in Debrecen, KLTE, DOTE, and DATE (Debrecen University of Agricultural Sciences), merge to form the University of Debrecen.

- In September, the first third-year pharmacy students begin their pharmaceutical chemistry studies at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

- Within the MTA Antibiotic Chemistry Research Group at KLTE-TTK, the KLTE-MTA Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is established.

- The pharmacy program is launched in Debrecen through a joint effort by Kossuth Lajos University (KLTE) and the University of Debrecen Medical School (DOTE).
